STITCH OF THE MONTH - March 2013
The lattice cable stitch pattern produces a raised lattice (or diamond) texture against a stockinette stitch background. The cable stitches are knit using both left and right twists which are produced by crossing two stitches over one another without using a cable needle.
How to Knit the Left and Right Twists
Left Twist (LT) - Skip the first stitch and knit the second stitch through the back loop keeping the stitch on the needle, and then knit the skipped stitch. Slip both stitches from the needle together.
Right Twist (RT) - Skip the first stitch and knit the second stitch keeping the stitch on the needle, then knit the skipped stitch. Slip both stitches from the needle together.
Lattice Cable Stitch Pattern
(Multiples of 8 stitches + 2 stitches)
Row 1 (WS) and all other WS rows: Purl.
Row 2: K1, *LT, k4, RT; rep from *, end k1.
Row 4 K2, *LT, k2, RT, k2; rep from *.
Row 6 K3, *LT, RT, k4; rep from *, end LT, RT, k3.
Row 8 K4, *RT, k6; rep from *, end RT, k4.
Row 10 K3, *RT, LT, k4; rep from *, end last repeat k3.
Row 12 K2, *RT, k2, LT, k2; rep from *.
Row 14 K1, *RT, k4, LT; rep from *, end K1.
Row 16 K8, *LT, k6; rep from *, end k2.
These 16 rows form the Lattice Cable stitch pattern.
I've looked at a number of diamond shaped stitches and this is the best I've found! The left and right twists are simpler and better explained than many others. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteOOPS! About that 16th row----somehow it seems I'd need 18 stitches to do that, and I don't see how with only one twist stitch that would finish the diamond shape. Should it end with the 14th row, or maybe repeat Row 2?
ReplyDeleteThe sample that I knit started with k8 on row 16 and then the pattern as written. However, you are correct in the stitch could so you would actually start the 16th row at *LT, k6; rep from *, end k2.
